Kenyatta University established the Directorate of Research, Capacity Building and Consultancy Services (KU-RCBCS) as a one stop shop that coordinates Research, Capacity Building and Consultancy Services within the University. The Directorate is headed by a Director, reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Outreach.

Operations of the Directorate are overseen by a Board, and governed by policy a framework which lends flexibility and efficiency in the delivery of its mandate. The Directorate taps from the diverse human resource base inherent in the teaching and non-teaching staff of the University.

Through this, the Directorate has developed a team of highly skilled, specialized, competent and diversified researchers, consultants and trainers capable of undertaking cutting-edge research, consultancy and training activities at national, regional and global levels. 

The Directorate specific mandates are:-

  1. Providing research support to the University’s scholars and researchers in their quest to competitively acquire and effectively utilize grant and funding opportunities;
  2. Coordinate the Mainstreaming of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI)  activities in the University;
  3. Market the training programs and consultancy services locally and internationally;
  4. Deliver high-impact research, capacity building and consultancy services;
  5. Act on various training and consultancy requests from institutions as well as strategic clients locally and internationally;
  6. Establish priority training areas in response to market demands in Kenya, the region and internationally; and
  7. Develop strategic collaborations with training development partners for enhancing impact nationally, regionally and globally.
