A group of young, ambitious, energetic students from Kenyatta University were excited to go through a one week Ajira digital training in Kenyatta University from 4th to 8th February 2018 at BSSC Room 14. The program is an initiative of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. It is aimed at making student do something else apart from class work. The program targets at training 1,000 students and equipping them with the necessary technical skills to enable them tap into the huge potential of online jobs. The training was done by a team of three trainers from Ajira and 3 lecturers from Kenyatta University. Accompanying the team, were Kenyatta University Ajira leaders, who gave their testimony about Ajira. Having tested the fruits, the chairman noted that through Ajira he has been able to earn his first dollar and pay his last month’s rent. By the end of the training the students were able to open their accounts and some had already earned their first dollar.
In his speech during the official opening of the training, Prof. Simon Onnwere, the director capacity building and consultancy services urged the students to position themselves for job markets by utilizing many available opportunities in Kenyatta University. He said.’’ Instead of languishing and expecting from parents you should be motivated, have urge and spirit to make it, use the opportunities in KU search as GIS and Ajira to earn a living. You should engage more and inspire the ministry to invest more in Kenyatta University”.
